Art is a powerful little fúcker. It's not just me being a slùt for drawings, it's clearly its fault. If your writing is subpar, you razzle and dazzle them with colour and light. If your characterization is shallow or stereotypical, you give the cast the most soulful and intense facial expressions you can. A good art department can go a long way, I'm saying. Even better: it's not susceptible to the woes of a botched translation penned by a gaggle of lemurs high on cocaine.

A Match Made in Mana has a bit of a problem with its characterization. Lillienne - or as I like to call her, Miss Magical Narcan - is perfectly good, willfully unaware of her husband's love, unblemished and just as incredible. In the sense that I do not believe her to be a real person. ML, while written a tad more in depth, does not fare much better. Even worse, their relationship is built upon codependency. JUST codependency. Nothing else. It's been 60chs of the most sugary sweet PDA, and he still likes her just because she is his personal prescription drug against magical torture, while she.. well...

Yeah. Not great. Sure, I like seeing him showing his tïts menacingly, thirsting after her like the slutwhøre he is, yandering his way into her heart. But that's it. And I like it mostly because of the first season's art, which was acting as a crutch for the characters.

You do understand, then, that we encounter a slight problem when the 2nd season comes with moments where a sledgehammer made of art "style" """changes""" is brought down on the manga's legs, shattering ALL of its bones and launching that crutch in the stratosphere. Again, NOT GREAT.

Of course, it's not THAT bad. But the previous art style was just so, so glittery and beautiful that the new one comes out of the comparison utterly crushed when it falters. It's not even funny, I'm afraid.

It is, in fact, a 8- on the Ivern Scale™️.

Why this is so underrated.. It good.. Fl is smart but doesn't soo strong.. Ml is obssessive and possessive.. Cute. Their chemistry and story line might typical.. But not so typicak.. Overall worth reading.. Art also.. 10/10🎀
